Several major shipping lines have instructed all vessels heading towards the Red Sea strait to halt journeys in the region while OOCL is no longer accepting cargo to or from Israel after vessels were targeted with missiles by Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels, as the fallout from the Israel-Gaza war hits shipping.
Maersk suspended voyages through the Red Sea strait on December 15 while Hapag-Lloyd, MSC, CMA CGM and OOCL have all followed suit.
In MSC’s case, an attack on the MSC Palatium III container vessel caused limited fire damage to the ship, which was taken out of service, although all crew were safe with no reported injuries.
