A joint statement released by the governments of 12 countries has called for an end to attacks by Houthi rebels on commercial ships in the Red Sea while various global shipping organisations have also condemned the current situation.
The governments of Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, UK and US have said that there is no lawful justification for intentionally targeting shipping and naval vessels.
France, Spain and the Seychelles did not sign the statement despite initially joining Operation Prosperity Guardian.
