The Port of Virginia has begun powering all of its terminals with electricity from clean resources, following a power purchase agreement with Dominion Energy, ensuring the generation and allocation of enough clean energy to support all current and future operational megawatt requirements.
The announcement comes eight years ahead of the port’s original 2032 goal of using clean energy to power operations, and will help to reduce carbon emissions by 45% per container.
The port, which is the first on the US East Coast to be powered by clean energy, is targeting carbon neutrality by 2040.
