US and UK navies repel largest Houthi shipping attack in Red Sea

The American and British navies have shot down 21 drones and missiles in the Red Sea that were launched by the Iranian-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels in the Red Sea, the largest attack by the group in the region so far.

According to the US Central Command, 18 one-way attack UAVs (OWA UAVs), two anti-ship cruise missiles and one anti-ship ballistic missile were shot down in a joint effort from the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and four destroyers – USS Gravely, USS Laboon, USS Mason and the UK’s HMS Diamond – on January 9, at approximately 9.15pm.

No injuries or damage was reported following the 26^th attack by Houthi rebels on commercial shipping lanes in the Red Sea since November 19.
