Iranian-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels have fired an anti-ship ballistic missile in the Red Sea and hit the Marshall Islands-flagged M/V Gibraltar Eagle, a bulk carrier owned and operated by the US, as tensions continue to rise in the region.
The incident took place on January 15 at 4pm (Sanaa time) but no injuries or significant damage were reported, and the vessel continued its journey.
Earlier that day, the US Central Command (USCENTCOM) reported that forces detected an anti-ship ballistic missile had been fired towards southern Red Sea commercial shipping lanes, but the missile failed in flight with no injuries or damage reported.
