Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have signed an agreement for a new long-term operational collaboration called the Gemini Cooperation, starting from February 2025, with the Danish company exiting the 2M Alliance and the German carrier leaving THE Alliance next January.
The new alliance will comprise a fleet pool of around 290 vessels with a combined capacity of 3.4m teu, with Maersk deploying 60% and Hapag-Lloyd 40%, aiming to deliver a reliable, flexible and interconnected ocean network.
As a part of the agreement, the two companies have set a target of delivering schedule reliability of above 90% once the network is fully phased in.
