Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has acquired seven tugboats aimed at enhancing marine operations and its commercial seaports, representing a R1bn (US$52m) investment in its fleet renewal programme.
The seven tugboats will replace marine craft that has reached its operational lifespan at the ports of Durban and East London.
From April to August 2024, shipbuilding company Damen Shipyards Cape Town will deliver the seven tugboats as part of the two contracts awarded to it by TNPA.
