PSA Sines has received six new electric, fully automated rubber-tyred gantry cranes (aRTGs), which are expected to be operational by the second quarter of this year and help to advance the terminal’s sustainability goals.
The new aRTGs, as well as the recent arrival of two ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 12 new prime movers, are part of stage one of PSA Sines’s €412m (US$447m) Phase III expansion project.
When completed in 2030, the terminal will have almost doubled its annual handling capacity from 2.7m teu to 4.2m teu.
