US to build temporary port to deliver aid to Gaza
US President Joe Biden has announced that the US military will build a temporary port on Gaza’s Mediterranean coast to help deliver humanitarian aid by sea to the area.
The operation will be based in Cyprus, building on the Cypriot initiative that calls for the gathering of humanitarian aid in the city of Larnaca, 210 nautical miles from Gaza.
The plan does not include the US military being deployed in the region and Israeli officials would be allowed to screen shipments before they head to Gaza.
