Following on from the success of the Port of Kaohsiung’s newly opened 7th Container Terminal, Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd. (TIPC) has allocated an additional budget of NT$4.469bn (US$140m) to improve and upgrade infrastructure at the port’s 3rd and 5th terminals.
Expected to ultimately increase annual capacity at the port by 6.5m teu, the 7th Container Terminal commenced commercial operations in May 2023.
However, shipping lines are commissioning increasingly larger ships, streamlining hub and feeder port operations and rendering existing port infrastructures around the world increasingly inadequate for industry needs.
