Container throughput at the Port of Hamburg rose slightly by 1% to 1.9m teu in the first quarter of 2024, despite the tense geopolitical and economic conditions affecting the market environment.
In the first three months of this year, record volumes of 179,000 teu were handled on Hamburg’s routes with the USA, representing an increase of 18% and is in line with the port’s objective to increase resilience by diversifying the partner structure.
Additionally, container traffic with China increased by 3% to 536,000 teu and remain the highest route, while traffic grew with Mexico by 32% to 27,000 teu and with Morocco by 45% to a record 34,000 teu.
