South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) has reduced its Scope 1 carbon footprint by 36% since 2019/20, according to data published in its fifth consecutive sustainability report.
The reduction was achieved through substantial investment in capital and leading-edge technology, which reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity per container move by 28% from 21.8 kg/CO2eq to 15.6 kg/CO2eq.
The terminal invested in 22 rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes with the hybridisation process replacing the existing genset with a battery bank and smaller genset improving the machine’s fuel efficiency and reducing carbon emissions by more than 50%.
