Plans for a major container terminal at Northport, New Zealand, have been declined by independent commissioners due to the scale and extent of the 11.7 ha reclamation currently proposed.
Northport had applied to the Northland Regional and Whangarei District Councils in late 2022 for a raft of resource consents needed for the project which would have increased its freight storage and handling capacity.
The proposed expansion called for the 11.7 ha of reclamation and associated coastal structures for a 250 m wharf extension at Marsden Pt.
