Container throughput at the merged Port of Antwerp-Bruges rose 4% year-on-year in the first half of 2024, driven by an increased demand following a global slowdown due to economic uncertainty and inflation.
The growth begun in the first quarter and continued into the second with total 1H2024 volumes reaching just over 6.6m teu.
Further volume growth was driven by the ‘new normal’ of shipping lines sailing around the Cape of Good Hope in an effort to avoid the ongoing conflict in the Red Sea.
