The Indian government has inauguarated the Tuticorin International Container Terminal (TICT), which has a capacity of 6m teu, at the VO Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA), significantly bolstering the port’s cargo handling capacity.
The container terminal, which is VOCPA’s third, is operated by JM Baxi Group and boasts a draft of 14.2 m, an overall length of 370 m and an area of 10 ha, including the berth and back up area.
Narendra Modi, the Indian prime minister, underlined that today was a significant milestone in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation and hailed the facility as the ‘new star of India’s marine infrastructure’.
