KR grants Approval in Principle to Samsung Heavy Industries for 9,300 teu ammonia-fuelled vessel

Korean Register (KR) has awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for its 9,3000 teu Ammonia-fuelled container ship.

Ammonia has gained prominence as a potential zero-carbon fuel as the global maritime industry intensifies efforts to meet stricter decarbonisation targets.

In light of the current trends, containerships fuelled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) have adopted designs that allow the use of ammonia fuel for its sustainable option.
