The Port of Barcelona has for the first time successfully connected a ship to Hutchison Ports BEST’s onshore power supply (OPS) system which was opened in July at the terminal.
The MSC Mette was able to turn all its engines off while moored at the port, in what was the first emission-free port of call for a container ship.
The OPS system supplied 100% renewable energy to the 24,000 teu container ship during the three days it was moored at Barcelona, with the connection and provisioning process running successfully and smoothly.
