Member states identified further areas of convergence in their positions during the 82nd session of the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) held from September 30 to October 4 and produced a draft legal text to use as a basis for ongoing talks around proposed “mid-term measures” for GHG reductions to be adopted in 2025.
The measures, which build on previously adopted “short-term measures”, include a goal-based marine fuel standard that will phase in the mandatory use of fuels with less GHG intensity and a global maritime GHG emissions pricing mechanism.
