Lloyd’s Register (LR) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) have signed a joint development project (JDP) for approval in principle (AiP) for an ammonia-powered dual-fuel container ship with 15,300 teu capacity.
HHI has developed a twin skeg design for an ultra large container ship (ULCS) and the 365 m vessel features two small bore engines that are currently available on the market.
Ammonia fuel tanks are positioned ahead of the engine room, far from the deckhouse, helping ensure safe fuel supply and better crew habitability.
