APM Terminals (APMT) has commissioned five electric straddle carriers to be rolled out in Barcelona as part of its US$60m global electrification pilot to reduce emissions.
The project in Barcelona has been supported by approximately €3m (US$3.2m) by the Spanish Government and within a year, plans are being put in place in getting the port ready for the first testing, along with setting up charging stations and implementation of the required technology to operate.
The pilot and testing of equipment taking place in Barcelona happens in cooperation with Konecranes and ZPMC.
