DP World has started the maritime works for the construction of the Port of Ndayane totalling US$1.2bn, with the aim of transforming Senegal into a major centre for global trade.
The arrival of the dredger vessel Willem Van Rubroeck marked the beginning of the project and will dredge a 5 km shipping channel, an essential step in building the state-of-the-art, high-capacity port designed to elevate Senegal’s trade infrastructure, the logistics company noted.
Phase 1 includes an 840 m quay and 5 km channel capable of accommodating the world’s largest container ships with an annual handling capacity of 1.2m teu.
