DP World has received approval for its expansion project at London Gateway worth £1bn (US$1.3bn) with construction work set to begin in May.
The project will aim to be completed in four years, adding two further 400 m long all-electric berths and a second rail terminal in a major infrastructure project boosting the UK’s trading capability.
The expanded container port, part of the Thames Freeport, will be able to accommodate six of the world’s largest container ships, which will be served by Europe’s tallest quay cranes.
