Port of Long Beach’s volumes declined 8% in May due to tariffs and retaliatory tariffs, although the port remains cautiously optimistic that a temporary pause on those fees will trigger a cargo surge in June.
The port processed 639,160 teu in May, with imports down 13% to 299,116 teu and exports decreasing by 18% during the same period to 82,149 teu.
However, empty containers were up 3% to 257,895 teu during May.
