Cornelder bets US$125m on Beira to capitalise on South African port congestion
Cornelder de Moçambique is doubling down on the Port of Beira with a US$120m to US$125m expansion programme designed to more than double container capacity over four years—a bet that persistent congestion at South African ports will continue pushing regional cargo its way.
“To improve performance within the port, over the next four years we will invest US$120m to increase the container terminal capacity to 700,000 teu and 5m tonnes of general cargo,” Jan de Vries, Cornelder’s chief executive, said last month.
