COSCO Shipping Lines has ordered 12 dual-fuel main engines from Everllence for 18,000 teu newbuilds under construction at Jiangnan Shipyard, marking the engine manufacturer’s 2,000th two-stroke dual-fuel engine order. The B&W 8G95ME-GI Mk. 10.5 engines feature EcoEGR technology and form part of COSCO’s fleet modernisation programme.
COSCO ranks fourth globally by container capacity. The order reflects accelerating adoption of alternative fuel technologies across container shipping. LNG-fuelled vessels accounted for 58% of container orderbook gross tonnage in 2025, according to DNV data.
Container vessel orders rose from 447 units in 2024 to 547 in 2025. Christian Ludwig, head of global sales and promotion at Everllence, said 2025 saw “strong order intake for our two-stroke, dual-fuel engines, especially the ME-GI”. Over half of Everllence’s orderbook is now dual-fuel measured by engine power, spanning methane, methanol, ethane, LPG and ammonia variants.
