Maersk takes delivery of first mid-size vessel in new series Maersk has taken delivery of the Tangier Mærsk, the first vessel in a new mid-size container ship series, according to industry reports.
The vessel’s name suggests potential deployment connecting to Morocco’s Tangier Med hub, though Maersk has not specified route assignments or the delivery schedule for additional vessels in the series.
Specific capacity figures were not disclosed. The delivery comes as containerised trade growth is projected at 1.0% for 2026, according to UNCTAD forecasts. Maersk’s fleet expansion follows ongoing infrastructure investments across African ports, including Transnet National Ports Authority’s R534m (US$34m) investment in mooring assets to support container growth at South African facilities.
