Handled by the company’s specialist Crane Services Competence Centre for North Europe, the project required the crane to be moved by barge from the Scania Terminal Quay 705 to the West Harbour, Helsingborg Quay 906. The move required detailed engineering calculations to ensure the crane remained stable throughout its transportation.

Bengt Niklasson, Helsingborg’s manager of port infrastructure, said: “Moving an STS crane is not an everyday occurrence…It called for detailed crane stability calculations, structural stiffening of the main frame, ballast engineering and preparations of the barge to handle the structure.”

The crane also required structural modifications to eliminate a 400 mm difference in height between the crane rails at the new location. Additionally, the checkers cabin had to be lowered to provide optimum access and the high voltage cable reel and support were repositioned on the structure.
