Itajai turning basin widening works finally begin

Bigger ships will soon be able to call at Itajai

Long-delayed work on widening the River Itajai’s turning basin has finally begun, a spokesperson for Portonave told CM.

The turning basin at the Port of Itajai will be widened so that vessels longer than 305 m can call at the port’s two terminals: Portonave-operated Navegantes and APMT Itajai.

Vessels of up to 336 m currently sail along the Brazilian coast and bigger ships are expected in the coming years.
