DP World to operate India’s first automated port gates

The gates feature Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology

Dubai-headquartered port operator DP World has introduced automated gates at its terminal in Nhava Sheva International Gateway Terminal (NSIGT) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port, India.

The introduction of the new gates, which are powered by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, represents the first time automated gates are operational in the country’s port industry.

The project, which will allow single transactions to be established in less than three seconds, will result in a significantly faster gate turnaround time at NSIGT, from the current five minutes to less than sixty seconds.
