Florida International Terminal receives first avocado shipments from Colombia
The first 18 tonnes of Hass avocados have arrived at Florida International Terminal (FIT) from Colombia, on board the Dubai Express of Hapag Lloyd.
The fruit came from the Colombian port of Cartagena to the SAAM-operated terminal in the US before continuing towards a distribution center in Georgia, from where it will subsequently arrive at its final destination.
Klaus Stadthagen, FIT’s general manager, said: “The US represents around 40% of this product’s purchasers worldwide, and estimates indicate that it imported around US$2bn in 2016.
