APM Terminals (APMT) has launched a new barge service at its Maasvlakte II facility in Rotterdam which will connect the terminal to cold store and distribution centre.
The daily, fixed-time Cool Port barge service will connect Maasvlakte II to a facility in the Waalhaven section of the Port of Rotterdam that is operated by Dutch company Kloosterboer. The service is targeted primarily at fresh fruit and vegetable importers.
Roy De Haan, head of commercial management at Maasvlake II, said: “We can be sure that when the containers are discharged from the vessel, we can put them right on the barge. We have everything controlled so we know which containers should be loaded on the barge.”
