Mitsui E&S Machinery (MES-M) has received a grant to develop a rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) crane powered by a hydrogen fuel cell power module, in an effort to work towards the decarbonisation of port operations.
Preparation is ongoing and the initial demonstration of the zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell driven RTG is scheduled to be completed by March 2022.
The goal is to achieve performance equivalent to that of a conventional diesel engine driven RTG, followed by testing at a to-be-determined terminal.
