Port of Antwerp-Bruges figures reflect geopolitical tensions and slowing economic growth

The port aims to "sail in the right direction"

Container throughput at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges decreased 7% year-on-year in 2023 to 12.5m teu, despite a minor increase of the port’s container segment market share in the Hamburg-Le Havre range.

According to Antwerp-Bruges, weak global economic growth and lower demand for commodities has weighed on global demand for container transport.

The slowing global economic growth and ongoing political tensions have driven down industrial production and trade flows, contributing to a 6% drop in total throughput at the Port of Antwerp to 271m tonnes.
