Safeen Group, part of AD Ports Group, has announced the first trial of an electric tug in the Middle East, which will be deployed at Khalifa Port, the flagship facility of AD Ports.
The Damen RSD-E Tug 2513 is a zero-emissions, all-electric harbour tug, which has a 70-ton bollard pull to be able to handle the largest vessels.
The vehicle will initially be operated via generators, which comply with the latest International Maritime Organization tier 3 regulations and remains more fuel-efficient compared to traditional azimuth stern-drive (ASD) tugs.
