Port of Barcelona opens first OPS system at Hutchison Ports BEST terminal

Hutchison Ports BEST

The Port of Barcelona has opened its first onshore power supply (OPS) system at Hutchison Best container terminal, which is the first to be deployed in such a facility in a Mediterranean port.

The equipment makes it possible to supply ships with 100% renwable-origin electricity so that they can turn off their engines whilst in the port and reduce emissions.

The OPS is the first to be implemented under the €200m (U$220m) Nexigen plan which will enable all wharves at the Port of Barcelona to be electrified, reducing emissions from port activity.
