The Port of Montreal Longshoremen’s Union (CUPE 375) and the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) have agreed to enter a 90-day mediation period following the decision from Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) on November 14.
The Canadian government intervened to bring an end to the disputes and labour minister Steven MacKinnon directed the CIRB to order a resumption of operations at the Port of Montreal earlier in November.
The union had rejected the final offer from the MEA which included a 3% salary increase per year for four years and a 3.5% increase for the two subsequent years, retroactive to the beginning of 2024.
