Experts call for exploration into pest-resistant container design

Invasive pests pose a US$423bn problem to the industry

The possibility of developing a pest-resistant container design has been discussed by experts at The International Symposium on Optimising Container Design to Mitigate Risks of Pest Contamination in Rotterdam. 

Attendees included representatives from major carriers, leasing companies, container manufacturers, biosecurity experts and plant health stakeholders who are trying to address a US$423bn global challenge caused by invasive pests. 

The symposium was organised by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat in partnership with the Bureau International des Containers (BIC), the Container Owners Association (COA) and the World Shipping Council (WSC).
