The Port of Rotterdam has recorded a 3% increase in container throughput 13.8m teu, driven by increased consumer spending.
Container throughput in tonnes also grew by 3% to 133.4m tonnes as wage indexation and declining inflation led to higher disposable income and increased demand for consumer goods and food.
Across all segments, cargo throughput fell by less than 1% to 435.8m tonnes while liquid bulk declined by 3% but dry bulk increased negligibly.
