SAAM has christened the first electric tugboat in Latin America, the Trapananda, marking a major step in the maritime sector’s energy transition and a concrete move towards more sustainable operations.
The vessel creates zero direct CO2 emissions and has the ability to reduce underwater noise, helping to protect marine life and able to actively contribute to the decarbonisation of the port sector.
A strategic partnership of SAAM and Enap will see the electric tug operate in one of the southernmost terminals in the world – Puerto Chacabuco, in the Aysén region, supporting ship berthing and de-berthing manoeuvres.
