The Port of Oakland saw steady container flows in August, following a strong July surge, and reflected continued adjustments by shippers responding to tariff-related trade policy shifts.
Handling 192,313 teu during this period, Oakland’s volumes were nearly even with August 2024 although imports decreased slightly (1%) to 82,245 teu while exports rose 5% to 62,477 teu, underscoring sustained demand from overseas markets.
Importers moved goods earlier in the season to avoid potential disruptions, while exporters benefited from consistent overseas demand. Empty container movements tracked with seasonal norms.
