According to Port’s commercial director, Patrício Júnior, “The start of our operations as a container terminal is a source of pride for all investors, employees and the city as a whole.”
It has taken 18 years and R$500m (US$314m) in private investment to make the port a reality. During this time challenges have had to be overcome including the obtaining of licenses and guarantees from international, federal, state and municipal agencies as well as intervening stakeholders such as Antaq (National Agency of Waterway Transportation), Cesportos (State Commission of Public Safety in Ports), Fire Department, Ibama, Fatma, ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) and the IRS.
The container handling Itapoá Port is a joint venture between Oortinvest Participações (Grupo Battistella and LOGZ Logística Brasil S.A.) and Aliança Navegação e Logística (Hamburg Süd Group).
