Michelin treads carefully

X-Straddle 2 has been developed for single spreader straddle carriers

Taking note of the demanding environment in which tyres have to operate in container terminals and following recommendations through customer feedback, Michelin has launched a new X-Straddle 2 tyre.

Developed specifically for use on single spreader straddle carriers, the new 16.00 450/95 R25 radial has been designed to improve safety while increasing productivity by more than 30%.  Currently the tyre manufacturer is retaining the 480/95 R25 X-Straddle tyre for double-spreader machines.

To enhance safety, the new tyre is narrower than its predecessor, allowing the driver more room to manoeuvre between the stack lanes, while the sidewalls include built-in protective belts making them more resistant to punctures and shearing should the tyre come in contact with a container.
