Second phase of ICTSI’s Basra investment underway

The phase two expansion of Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) is underway, with 400 m of quay and a 14 m draught to be completed by the third quarter of 2019, enabling vessels of up to 9,000 teu to be handled.

On completion of this phase, the terminal operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) will have invested US$250m, the lion’s share of which is for a new berth, yard construction, and handling equipment.

A new 30 ha yard area featuring seven rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes will be created along with a 15 ha secure parking area while three post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) cranes will be installed along the quay.
