The Panama Canal has closed the first half of the 2020 fiscal year with a total tonnage of 258.4m Panama Canal tonnes (PC/UMS) as it keeps an eye on the impact of COVID-19.
Containers continued to lead with 82.1m PC/UMS tonnes, followed by bulk carriers at 41.8m PC/UMS tonnes and chemical tankers at 39.9m PC/UMS tonnes.
The total 258.4m PC/UMS was registered from October 2019 to March 2020 and is slightly above the 247.4m PC/UMS tonnes intermodal for the first half of the current 2020 fiscal year.
