Hapag-Lloyd is launching a fleet upgrade programme for more than 150 ships within the next five years, hoping to reduce fuel consumption and therefore cut its fleet’s CO2 emissions.
To begin with, a retrofit propeller, which has been optimised for energy efficiency by the German manufacturer MMG, will be installed on Hapag-Lloyd’s 7,500 teu-capacity Ningbo Express in Dubai in September.
As a result, the ship saves 10-13 % fuel and CO2 emissions, depending on the sailing condition.
