Canada’s labour minister Steven MacKinnon has stepped in to end the work stoppages and labour disputes at the country’s major ports, including Vancouver and Montreal.
MacKinnon announced the binding arbitration measure in a press conference, directing the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order the resumption of all operations at the ports.
MacKinnon told the conference that he had directed the Canada Industrial Relations Board to order that all operations and duties at the ports resume and to assist the parties to settle their collective agreements by imposing final and binding arbitration.
