Transnet Port Terminals acquires new STS cranes for Port Elizabeth Terminal

The Port Elizabeth Container Terminal has acquired a new ship-to-shore (STS) crane valued at R240m (US$12.6m) to increase its agricultural and automotive container throughout and its capacity to handle larger vessels efficiently.

Replacing another crane that has reached its end-of-lifecycle after operating for over 35 years, the new crane gives assurance to industry of the terminal’s equipment current replacement plan.

Original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Liebherr Africa equipped the crane with the latest technology and through its reduced energy consumption has ensured minimised environmental impact.
