Overall cargo volume has slowed at the Port of Los Angeles (LA) due to the impact of tariffs on both imports on exports, with container volumes for May down 5% year-on-year in particular.
Following 10 straight months of year-over-year growth, the Port of LA handled 716,619 teu in May, marking the port’s lowest monthly cargo output in over two years.
Port of LA executive director Gene Seroka said: “While May volume is typically stronger than April as we approach our traditional peak season, our imports dropped 19% compared to last month.
