The purchase of the crane is part of an ongoing Vancouver Port Authority (VPA) initiative to increase Vanterm’s capacity to 850,000 teu annually. This in turn is part of a broader programme that will give the port a planned capacity of 4m teu by 2012. According to the VPA, container expansion at Vancouver is expected to generate an additional C$8bn in economic output by 2020.
