“With the on-going problem of overweight containers becoming more critical, terminal operators are requiring accurate container weights to be fed into the TOS, both for safe handling in the terminal and for vessel loading,” explained Beat Zwygart, managing director of Lasstec.
Precise information on container weights and load eccentricities is gathered at each corner of containers through the Lasstec load sensors incorporated into the spreader twistlocks as the box is lifted. This information is sent to a processing unit, which in turn sends it to the spreader PLC or directly to the crane PLC as well as the crane driver who can respond accordingly.
By bringing together the Lasstec and TSB technologies, this real-time load information will also be forwarded directly to the TOS, to alert the terminal operational team of the status of each container as it is handled.
